The Exmouth Shanty Men

Devon’s “original buoy band”, The Exmouth Shanty Men, formed in 2007 to breathe new life into the maritime heritage of their home port. Dressed as merchant sailors, their tight organic harmonies and simple, strong arrangements are packed into their fun-filled stage act.

The buoys have built a following on the English folk scene and are also popular at maritime festivals on the continent, having played often in France, Belgium, Holland and Germany as well as Ireland. At Krakow in Poland they have twice been proud to win the Stan Hugill trophy for the most authentic shanties.
